Donald Trump’s administration has been consumed by what can only be described as utter chaos. Staff shake-ups have become the status quo, with both White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer and Trump’s chief of staff, Reince Priebus, being ousted in recent days.
With these high-profile firings taking the limelight, it went pretty much under the radar last week when National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster suddenly gave a member of the National Security Council the boot for no obvious reason whatsoever.
But now, it looks like McMaster could find his own head on Trump’s chopping block.
According to NSC spokesman Michael Anton, McMaster “removed” retired Army Col. Derek Harvey from his position on the National Security Council late last week. From the looks of it, McMaster has been trying for some time now to get rid of members who were close to Michael Flynn, and Harvey had close ties to the disgraced former National Security Adviser.
Now, New York Times reporter Glenn Thrush says that McMaster may be the next member of the Trump administration to hear the words, “You’re fired.”
Surprising: admin sources told me they think Kelly hiring makes it more likely Trump ousts McMaster (who annoys him)
replaces him w Pompeo.

It is worth noting that if Trump were to fire McMaster and replace him with CIA Director Mike Pompeo, this would leave the intelligence agency without leadership at a time when Congress isn’t particularly anxious to confirm any new appointees for fear that they could potentially interfere with the ongoing Russia investigation. Trump has also been attacking Attorney General Jeff Sessions mercilessly, leading many to speculate that it won’t be long until he is fired either. If Pompeo were promoted and Sessions fired, this would result in both the CIA and the FBI being placed in the hands of acting directors.
