After a lengthy dinner with the NRA, Trump’s White House has decided to hold back on expanding background checks for individuals wanting to purchase a gun.
Despite saying that he supported expanding background checks, President Trump downplayed the importance of due process when it comes to seizing firearms from people who could be seen as a danger to themselves or others.
NRA member Chris Cox met with the president and vice president to discuss the matter of gun control, but after this tweet Cox sent out, it appears that gun control laws will not be in the works.
I had a great meeting tonight with @realDonaldTrump & @VP. We all want safe schools, mental health reform and to keep guns away from dangerous people. POTUS & VPOTUS support the Second Amendment, support strong due process and don’t want gun control. #NRA #MAGA

Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders stated on Friday that Trump was definitely open to improving the current background check system, but Cox’s tweet says otherwise. Trump continues to make broken promises to Americans. It is apparent that Trump is doing exactly what the NRA tells him to do because he doesn’t have a brain to think for himself.
Immediate responses came pouring in from Twitter:
No, we just give mentally ill people access to high powered weaponry closely adapted from a military weapon that is quite famous for its killing prowess.
This is America, where soldiers check their guns into armory on base, but every untrained shitbag carries their rifle around

This message bought paid for by the @NRA representing <2% of the American people.

Looking at it from outside the USA, Trump seems to be ruled by a gun-wielding terrorist organisation who wants everyone to join them in having semi automatic arms for everyday use.

We need gun control. All you need is money, Mr. NRA.

Your organization’s resistance to any kind of gun control makes you complicit in these mass shootings. You have blood on your hands because you wanted to make all the money.

That’s right. Gun-fondling Republicans and Trump had no plans to vote on gun legislation — it was all just for show so the survivors of the Parkland shooting will think he actually has a soul. The strategy all along was to wait for the topic of gun reform to die down and get swept under the rug as usual until the next deadly mass shooting occurs. And the constant cycle of parents having to bury their children will continue.
