It’s a Sunday in the middle of the biggest meltdown any American presidential administration has likely ever seen, so odds were already good that we were going to see Trump go golfing today.
Sure enough, Donald traveled to Sterling, Virginia for his 111th day at a Trump golf resort as president, according to NBC News. With only 471 days elapsed in his presidency, Trump has now surpassed 30 percent of his time in office with his 153rd day at a Trump property. But that’s not really the big story.
The White House press pool has been hounding the administration for hours for a response to a tipster’s report that Rudy Giuliani, fresh off an unmitigated disaster of a media tour, is accompanying Trump on his golf outing, a partnering that seems less likely to concern golf and more to concern Rudy’s future in the White House.
Personally, we’re hoping that the former mayor can use his longtime friendship with The Donald to leverage against his job until he’s provided every drop of sweet Trump agony the public can possibly consume. But with Kellyanne attacking him on one channel, Congressman Adam Schiff essentially calling him a lunatic on another channel, and the wheels absolutely FLYING off the Stormy Daniels bus in every direction, it looks like this meeting between him and the boss — which the White House still will not confirm — could be curtains for Rudy.
The problem for Trump in all this is, he’s used to conducting his business a certain way: If he needs to fire someone while saving face for both of them — Donald WAS the one who hired Rudy, after all — a golf outing seems like a perfect way to do it.
It’s just that this looks an awful lot like something a mafioso might do, and that’s the very last thing Donald Trump needs to look like right now.
