Well, it seems like spring cleaning has come to the White House early this year. Rex Tillerson was fired as Secretary of State today, and the firing continued with longtime Trump aide, John McEntee. This is significant because McEntee has been Trump’s close personal assistant since the election. He was fired because his background check for a security clearance (which he temporarily held) discovered he gambled online and “mishandled his taxes.”
This is slightly terrifying, because if McEntee had a gambling problem, he could be easily be blackmailed. This is one of the Russians’ favorite techniques to gain intelligence, and his “mishandling” of taxes is concerning as well. In addition to putting another financial strain on McEntee that could be exploited, not paying taxes isn’t indicative of a good moral character. Especially when you work at one of the highest levels of government!
But, with the risk of McEntee spilling the beans, the Trump Administration has simply rehired him to work on the 2020 re-election campaign. So even in light of his security breaches, Trump is still willing to bring him back into the fold. This is an odd move, especially given that when McEntee was fired from the White House he was dragged out of the building in a state of undress. Someone has to actually go get the poor mans jacket.
An interesting twist to this story is that McEntee could’ve even been fired by Tillerson. After all, the news McEntee was fired broke only minutes after the news of Tillerson’s exit.
As more bad apples are weeded from the Administration, it’s possible Trump may not have anyone working for him by the end of the year. After all, if even your minor aide is so compromised he has to be thrown out of his workplace, you know it’s indicative of deeper issues. Hopefully, however, we can just cut down the tree and impeach Trump. For now, watching the White House slowly burn is entertaining!
